Per Hall

MD, PhD
Dr Per Hall is the founding Principal Investigator (PI) of the Karma study. Dr Hall is a medical oncologist and holds a position as a senior consultant at the Stockholm South General Hospital (Södersjukhuset), and as a Professor at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet. He has the overall responsibility of the Karma Cohort and the clinical trials within Karma.

Kamila Czene

PhD
Dr Czene has been the Co-PI of Karma since the beginning of the project in 2010. She is Deputy chair at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet, where she is also a professor of epidemiology. Dr Czene’s research focuses on the etiology of breast cancer, with particular emphasis on prognosis and interval cancers.

Mattias Hammarström

Oncology nurse (OCN)
Mattias Hammarström has been the Chief of Operations in Karma since the beginning of the project in 2010. He is also Clinical Trial Manager (CTM) of the clinical trials in Karma. He has a background as a project manager and oncology research nurse. He is also a PhD student at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet, since 2019.

Magnus Bäcklund

MD, PhD
Dr Magnus Bäcklund is a medical oncologist and clinical trial physician in the Karisma 2 and Karma CREME studies. Dr Bäcklund has the medical responsibility at the Karma study centre.

Marike Gabrielson

PhD
Dr Marike Gabrielson is senior research specialist and project leader in Karma since 2018. She is a researcher at Karolinska Institutet at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet. Dr Gabrielson’s research focuses on the aetiology of breast cancer with an emphasis on the biological mechanisms behind mammographic density as a risk factor for breast cancer.

Keith Humphreys

PhD
Dr Keith Humphreys is Docent and Senior Lecturer in Biostatistics at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet. Dr Humphreys is a collaborator in the Karma project since it’s founding, with focus on breast cancer risk prediction, statistical modelling of breast cancer tumour progression and statistical analyses of mammographic images.

Martin Eklund

PhD
Dr Martin Eklund is an associate professor of biostatistics at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet. Dr Eklund is a collaborator in the Karma project since it’s founding, with focus on clinical trial design and statistical modelling. He leads a group aiming on reducing the mortality of breast- and prostate cancer through the use of individualised prevention, diagnostic, and treatment based on the combined use of biomarkers, genomics, and imaging.

Yvonne Wengström

Dr Yvonne Wengström is a professor of nursing at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Science and Society, Karolinska Institutet. Dr Wengström is a collaborator in the Karma project since 2013 with a focus on symptom assessment, questionnaire development and the use of qualitative methods to understand women’s perceptions of risk for breast cancer.

Mikael Eriksson

MSc
Mikael Eriksson is manager of the research platform in Karma and PhD student in the project, at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet. His research focuses on mammographic density and risk modelling. He developed the STRATUS mammographic density measurement tool and the CAD2Y risk model for measuring breast cancer risk in individualised screening.

Ann-Sofie Andersson

Ann-Sofie Andersson has been a research nurse in Karma since the beginning of the project in 2010. She is responsible for the daily interaction with the study participants in Karma and the Karma clinical trials. She has a background as an oncology nurse with focus on radiotherapy.

José Tapia

Jose Tapia is System Developer and Database Administrator in Karma, at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet, since 2015. He is responsible for the development and maintenance of Karma's main database and data withdrawals to the researchers. He also manages the survey web application and the mobile application KarmApp, used in the clinical trials.

Aki Tuuliainen

Aki Tuuliainen is a system developer and database administrator in Karma, at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet. His main responsibilities are e-CRFs and management systems of study participants in the clinical trials. He also manages invitations in ongoing trials and collection of mammograms of Karma participants.
